This past Saturday, my fellow MDC’s and I were honored to participate in the 2012 Broward County Walk Now for Autism Speaks! The event was held at the Alvin Sherman Library Green located on Nova Southeastern University’s main campus in Davie. The goal of Walk Now for Autism is to fund research vital to understanding the effects and causes of the disorder. The other cheerleaders and I were amazed to learn that every 11 minutes a child is diagnosed with autism. In addition, 1 in 88 children fall somewhere on the Autism Disorder Spectrum.
Having a special affinity for Autism research (I have a relative with autism), I felt proud to not only represent the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, but my family as well. Despite the weather, we were able to raise over $150,000 this year with all proceeds going to Autism Speaks. We were truly grateful to be a part of the cause and thrilled to give Autism a voice!
